Another touching email...I have not been able to come as much as I'd like. I was a member in 2005 2006 and have come sporadically since. My work schedule from 12-8 doesn't permit me to make it like I want to. I am extremely distraught that Bodytalk is closing :-( Without Bodytalk I can sincerely say that I would not be the woman that I have grown into today. When I first came to Bodytalk I was coming out of a marriage where I was beat down mentally, physically, as well as emotionally. Taylor and the other teachers, as well as Christine uplifted me and taught me that I am special and of great worth. The dances helped to boost my esteem as well as get me in shape... and past the dances.. I felt like it was a family at Bodytalk. I could talk to them about anything and they NEVER judged me. Just supported and gave the best advice they could from their life experience. Now, in 2010... I have my 1st child and I will teach him the lessons that I learned there. There are only good memories that I have of going to Laurel. I definitely would like to Thank each and every teacher that has come through there. Bodytalk is so much more than just learning a few moves and I am forever grateful to you all. I wish blessings and prosperity to you all and your families. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
Forever grateful

A Letter From the Owner
Hello Beauties,
It is with heavy heart that I announce the closing of the Bodytalk Laurel location. The last day for this location will be December 31, 2010. It hurts to know how disappointed our faithful clients will be, however we have exhausted every option imaginable to remain a part of the PG County Community. We will be forever grateful to all those who have supported us these past 5 years, unfortunately our revenues will not allow this location to remain open. 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 were great years for Body Talk, we had consistent memberships, parties and special events but 2009 began our rocky road. Committed to our clients, we hung in there and 24 months later not much has changed and we are simply losing more and more revenue every day. We were blessed with the opportunity to serve such great clients and for that, we thank you for your support. Body Talk Laurel is a part of our GREAT legacy, it allowed us to touch so many people.
Although this location will be closing, we will continue to offer Parties on the Go, Workshops, and Special Events. Our superior customer service and our gracious and top-notch instructors will continue.
BodyTalk has always had our Mobile Division and will continue to operate. Look out BodyTalk Mobile is on the move!!!
For any members whose memberships expire after December 31, 2010, you will receive a full or partial refund with 120 days.
For any studio parties already scheduled, your parties will go on as planned. If you need additional information, please feel free to contact us by phone or email.
Love You All,
Arnel Richardson, Owner

As I write this letter, it is very hard for me to understand that the Laurel location will no longer exist. It is a location that will always be dear to my heart. It was the location where I learned a great deal about business and was challenged to the utmost. It has been the preparation for my future. Body Talk has BIG plans; we will be producing a Fitness DVD and online classes, planning Out-of-state workshops, designing a full line of fitness apparel, etc. Please remain a part of our email list so that you can continue to take part in all that Body Talk has to offer.
Thanks again for your continued support.
Love You All,

Pole Dancing in China
Even the women in China have to come to learn the health and fitness benefits of pole dancing. Not only do they realize its not just for strippers or all about sex, they understand how much strength and endurance it takes to do a pole dance move. In the US, many pole dance studios have been created and have been around for a decade or more. Pole dancing for fitness seems to be hanging on strong, many thought it was a fad. Us pole dancers would say its a trend. By definition, what would you call it?
A fad is a short-term event, what some may call a 'flash in the pan'.
A trend, on the other hand, has the potential of becoming a long-term influence on the future of a market.
With the popularity of pole dance fitness growing more and more, it may be fair to say pole dance fitness is here to stay. If you have never tried a class, find your local studio and give it a shot. For all women it should be on your bucket list.

Take Charge of your Health!!
You should eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day! Of course more would be better like 8-10.
Here's 10 great tips to help you TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR HEALTH!!
1. For your salads use Romaine, dark leaf lettuce or spinach.
2. Top off your salads with some color, like carrots.
3. When eating a sandwich add dark green lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers or cucumbers.
4. Eat baked or mashed sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes.
5. Add berries to your cereal or pancakes.
6. Drink 100% orange ro grapefruit juice for breakfast. Grapefruit juice helps to tackle the fat around your abdomin. I love Simply Grapefruit brand.
7. Choose 2 different colored vegetables at meals.
8. Use onions, garlic, chives, parsley and peppers to season food instead of lots of salt and fat.
9. For a quick snack, grab an apple, pears, grapes or peaches.
10. Make a delicious smoothie with seasonal fruit.

Want blue skies ahead, Try Blueberries....
Many studies have been done about the health benefits of blueberries.
I found an article at Prevention.com that was written by Holly McCord, RD that talks about the miracle berry. Every second of your life, your cells are bombarded by dangerous particles called free radicals... fortunately, you can fight back. What you need to do is load your diet with antioxidants- the natural zappers of free radicals- by eating lots of fruits and vegetables.
The amazing little blueberry has emerged as nature's number one source of antioxidants among fresh fruits and vegetables.
For more info, please read Holly's article "The Miracle Berry"
Below are just some of the amazing things that blueberries can do:

Sunflower Seeds, A Tiny Wonder
Did you guys know that sunflower seeds have the highest natural vitamin E content of any food around, and no antioxidant is better at fighting off aging effects of free radicals? Other great sources of vitamin E include Total Cereal and Propel Fitness Water.
Sunflower seeds contain linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid). They are an excellent source of dietary fiber, protein, Vitamin E, B Vitamins, and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, selenium, calcium and zinc. Additionally, they are rich in cholesterol-lowering phytosterols.

8 Foods You Should Eat Every Day
Hello Ladies,
How do we make good nutrition apart of our lives without feeling overwhelmed. Easy, just eat these 8 foods every day.
Spinach
How do we make good nutrition apart of our lives without feeling overwhelmed. Easy, just eat these 8 foods every day.
Spinach
- rich in omega-3s and folate which help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and osteoporosis
- try to have 1 cup of fresh spinach or 1/2 cup of cooked per day. I just add fresh spinach to my salad, scrambled eggs, or pizza.
- Now, I already told you guys about yogurt, its the BOMB! Have 1 cup each day. Yogurt helps boost your immune system and can help provide protection against cancer because they are filled with probiotics. Now not all yogurt contain probiotics, make sure you pick up the one labeled "live and active cultures." Read my other post about Yogurt, Yogurt Oh So Good for You!
- Red tomatoes are the best, they are packed with the antioxidant lycopene. Processed tomatoes are just as potent as fresh ones. Having a diet rich in lycopene can decrease your risk of bladder, lund, prostate, skin, and stomach cancers. It can also reduce the risk of coronary artery disease. Try to have a glass of tomato juice or just 8 red cherry tomatoes a day. Its easy to just add tomatoes to your salad, and you will meet your daily dose.
- Most red, yellow, or orange vegetables and fruits are full of carotenoids-fat soluble compounds that are associated with a reduction in a wide range of cancers, and also reduce the risk of inflammatory conditions such as asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Carrots are the most easiet to prepare. You can also substitute carrots for a sweet potato, pumpkin or mango.
- Blueberries have more antioxidants than any other North American fruit. This fruit helps to prevent cancer, diabetes, and age-related memory changes. It is sometimes referred to as brain berry. Many studies show that blueberries are rich in fiber, vitamin A and C, and also boost cardiovascular health. Try to have 1 cup of fresh blueberries, or 1/2 cup of frozen or dried each day. You may also substitute with acai berries, purple grapes, prunes, raisins, or strawberries. They are the strongest in frozen, dried or jam form.
- Beans are really good for your heart, but black beans boost your brain power. They are full of anthocyanins which are antioxidant compounds that have been show to inprove brain functions. Try to have a 1/2 cup day. You can also substitute with peas, lentils, pinto, kidney, fava, and lima beans. A good way to fit them in by adding them to your breakfast burrito, use in your chili, or mix in with your pasta dishes.
- Walnuts has more omega-3s than salmon and more anti-inflammatory polyphenols than red wine, and has half as much muscle building protein as chicken. Other nuts combine only one or two of these features, not all three. Just 1 ounce or about 7 nuts would be great anytime. You can also substitute with almonds, peanuts, pistachios, macadamia and hazelnuts. You can also put this in your salad or pancake mix.
- Oats are packed with soluble fiber, which lowerss the risk of heart disease. They may be loaded with carbs but the release of those sugars are slowed by the fiber. Oats delivers muscle-friendly energy. You can substitute with flaxseed and wild rice. You can eat high fiber granolas and cereals and sprinkle some on top. You can also put it in your salads and yogurt.

Strawberries!!! A power fruit!
Everyone knows what a strawberry looks like. Its a small red fruit with yellow spects on the surface and it has a green leafy top. You can find strawberries all year long, however their peak season is from April to July. After doing some research I have found that there are over 600 varieties of strawberries, all of which has different flavors, sizes and textures.
Why should you eat strawberries??
Strawberries contain high amounts of vitamin C and iron. Strawberries are also a great source of pectin. Pectin is a soluble fiber that may lower lower cholesterol. Strawberries are also full of phytonutrients.
For more information on phytonutrients see
Strawberries are used by some to treat anemia, joint disease, and to strengthen the circulatory system and help balance hormones.
Get some strawberries in your diet!

Yogurt Oh so good for you!

Yogurt Oh So Good For you!
I am new to Yogurt. I did major research on this dairy product and when I discovered the health benefits, I was sold. I now have a serving of yogurt a day. I would like to share with you the benefits of this small package. I am sure you have noticed in your local supermarket the enormous selection of yogurt, its Yogurt World in the dairy department!
Here are just a few important benefits you should know about yogurt
• Yogurt is stacked with calcium and vitamin D, which proves to be beneficial to fighting osteoporosis
• According to Alvaro Alonso, MD, PhD, a researcher in the department of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, a study was done and it showed that a person who ate 2-3 daily servings of low fat dairy reduced their risk of High Blood Pressure by 50%.
• According to researchers from the Jean Mayer U.S Department of Agriculture Human Nutrition Center on Aging at Tufts University, yogurt with active cultures may help a number of gastrointestinal conditions such as
o Lactose intolerance
o Diarrhea
o Colon cancer
o Inflammatory bowel disease
o H. pylori infection
o Constipation
• And for those unwanted vaginal infections, yogurt with active cultures may help prevent yeast infections by balancing your vaginal pH.
Ladies make sure you find a yogurt that suits your taste buds. I personally love Yoplait Fat Free Light Orange CrĆØme Yogurt. If you like orange sherbet or orange dreamsicles , you will like this flavor. You can also add fruit to your yogurt, like fresh strawberries, peaches, mandarins, or pineapples. Whatever your preference, you should be able to find a flavor that you can stick with. For your health, add yogurt to your diet daily. It will prove to be beneficial!

Fruit of the Day: Bananas, Bananas, and more Bananas! Do you know the power of Bananas? Read on for more information...http://ping.fm/03Zio
Do you know the power of Bananas?
Bananas have many health benefits. A banana a day can help you live a healthy life. Bananas are packed with potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin Cand fiber, all of which are vital to a healthy diet. According to www.wikipedia.com, along with other fruits and vegetables, consumption of bananas are associated with a reduced risk of colorectal cancer and in women, breast cancer and renal cell carcinoma. Individuals with a latex allergy may experience a reaction to bananas. The juice extract prepared from the tender core treats kidney stones and high blood pressure.
Bananas contain considerable amounts of vitamin B6, vitamin C, and potassium. The latter makes them of particular interest to athletes who use them to quickly replenish their electrolytes
Research has shown that a high fiber diet significantly lowers the risk of heart disease, which is the number one cause of death in America.
The health benefits of eating bananas also include protection from stomach ulcers and digestive health. Bananas are also a good source of prebiotics - undigestible sugars which provide the nourishment for probiotics. Probiotics help defend from harmful microbes and improve nutrient absorbtion.

What will improve your Sex Life? A Flat Belly and Exercise
Strong abdominal and lower back muscles give you stamina and strength to try new positions or stay steady in old ones, so that sex is pleasurable as it should be, stated by David Zinczenko. I can attest to this finding. When you exercise, you have much more energy and strength and won’t find yourself choosing between sex and sleep. Women with a smaller waistline, will have better bloodflow. Foods that clog your arteries not only clog up the arteries going to your heart and brain, but also clog up the vessels leading to your genitals. If this happens, your blood will have trouble making it to the pelvic area. David also states that decreased flow of blood to the pelvic area in women can lead to decreased lubrication, sensitivity, and sexual pleasure. A study was conducted of more than 200 women, and showed that by increasing bloodflow to the genital area of women, you could increase lubrication, sensitivity, arousal, and sensation to the area. These are preliminary results, but improving your bloodflow can play a huge role in sexual satisfaction. Fitness Magazine did an article on Better Sex Workouts in November 2007. The article gave great exercise tips that would increase your sex life. Some group fitness exercise classes offer many exercises that target the abs, hip flexors, glutes, quads, calves, obliques, pelvic floor, and hamstrings. Find a class that focus on targeting these areas if you are looking to improve your sex life. These types of exercises are normally offered in Exotic Dance Fitness Classes. For more information and exercise demonstrations, please check out the article at Fitness Magazine. Fitness Magazine For classes in the MD area, check these links out! www.BodyTalkLLC.com

Many studies shows that people with the largest waist sizes have the most risk of life-threatening disease. For women a waistline larger than 35 inches increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes, according to the National Institutes of Health. Another study posted in the International Journal of Obesity found that women should strive for waist sizes less than 31.5 inches, when you waist grows larger so does your risk of heart disease. Now what’s really crazy is that another study shows that the average woman’s waist size is more 36 inches, which means she is at an increased risk for the same health problems. We do know that flattening your abs may not keep you out of the hospital but, we do know is that by developing a strong mid section aka abs, you will greatly reduce your body fat and cut your risk for disease significantly.
A flat belly not only reduces your risk for heart disease and diabetes but also cancer. Many studies show that the incidence of cancer among obese patients is 33 percent higher than among lean ones, according to a Swedish study. Studies also show that cancer is caused by mutations that occur in cells as they divide. Fat tissues in your abdomen causes your body to produce hormones that prompt your cells to divide, which means more risk for cancer. Some people think that diabetes comes from eating too much refined sugar, like the kind in ice cream and chocolate. However people contract diabetes after years of eating high carb stuff like white bread, pasta, mashed potatoes. Eating high amounts of these foods can harm you just as much as eating a half gallon of ice cream, leave you with a lot of sugar calories. It’s the calories that you can’t burn that turns into fat cells that like to rest around your midsection.
Here’s a few more things that visceral fat(fat around your abdomen) can cause:
• Sleep apnea
• Gastroesophageal reflux
• Asthma
• Poor sleep
Now is the time to be concerned. Find a physical activity that targets your entire body and focus on the abs. You want to live long right? Let’s do it. Stay tuned for tips on how to flatten that tummy.

Afraid to take a group fitness class?
If you fear going to your local gyn or dance/fitness studio and need some help getting there, here are some tips to help you overcome your fear.
- If you are interested in a particular facility, call and speak with a live representative. Ask the questions you want the answers to like what's the age group of your participants?, Are there beginner classes?, Whatis the attire for class?
- Visit the facility of interest and speak with the company representative, see how the clients interact with the staff, get a feeling for the atmosphere.
- Ask what will you gain form taking classes at this particular facility.
- See if the company has any videos available online that you can view. You Tube, etc.
- Grab a friend and tell them to join you. Sometimes its much easier to start a workout routine with a partner.
For women, if you prefer women only environments, that's fine, locate one.
Once you do all of the above, you should have enough information to decide which facility you prefer. Just pick one, if you keep waiting, you will never achieve your goals. Make sure you find a facility that you feel comfortable in, you need a certain level of comfort for you to be successful. Be realistic, don't expect to lose 30 pounds in a week, set obtainable goals. Also choose a place where the staff and instructors are concerned about you meeting your goals.
Whatever you do, make sure you find a class is fun, something that you will most likely stick with. You would not want to pay for a membership at a facility that you dread going to .
